Tube Council (NA) Announces the Winning Entries in the Tube of the Year 2023 Competition

May 10, 2023 by Dave Jones

Congrats to the 2023 “Ted Klein Tube of the Year Award” to Viva IML Tubes as the recipient of this year’s honor and well-deserved recognition for their submission, “Versed AHA Exfoliating Body Scrub”.

VIEW THE WINNERS GALLERY

Congratulations to the Tube of the Year Award Winners for 2023! The results are in, and we are excited to announce winners by category for the Tube Council’s annual competition. The winners were announced at the Council’s Membership and Awards dinner on May 9th.

The Tube of the Year competition provides a platform for members to showcase the best and most innovative squeeze tubes in our industry. For more than seventy (70) years The Tube Council has served as an open forum for member squeeze tube manufacturing companies, our supply base, customers, end users, and educators to discuss and act on industry related topics & initiatives.

For this competition, fifty-one (51) entries were submitted by twelve (12) of our Manufacturing and Associate members in the different market categories for this competition making for a very competitive event! The entries were evaluated by a panel of judges composed of representatives from the consumer goods industry professionals and the media. Judging was also done by individuals in the packaging academic community, including packaging degree students.

In addition to the winners in the different market categories, each year, a special acknowledge is given to the one squeeze tube entry that stands apart from the rest of the field and is selected as the recipient of the “Ted Klein Tube of the Year Award” for Best in Show! Congratulations go out to Viva IML Tubes as the recipient of this year’s honor and well-deserved recognition for their submission, “Versed AHA Exfoliating Body Scrub”.

Winning entries selected for “BEST in CATEGORIES” included a selection of tubes from the personal care, pharmaceutical, and oral care market areas as well as for products in the sustainable tube and innovative component or process categories. Historically, extruded plastic tubes have made up the lion’s share of submissions in the personal care category. However, for this most recent competition, the sustainable tube category greatly outpaced the other award categories in the number of submissions reflect the importance the industry and the consumer goods companies have placed on the need for environmentally friendly packages for their products.

The Tube Council membership congratulates the winners for their innovative designs, new materials, and processes.

Neopac Wins Pair of “Tube of the Year” Awards from European Tube Manufacturers Association

August 10, 2020 by Matthew Rigsby

Neopac Wins Pair of “Tube of the Year” Awards

from European Tube Manufacturers Association

Company’s PLASTIC RECYCLED TUBE and Stylo™ Polyfoil®

Tube with Spatula Applicator take top honors.

Oberdiessbach, Switzerland –Neopac, a global provider of high-quality packaging for a broad array of industries and applications, earned two “Tube of the Year” awards from the European Tube Manufacturers Association (ETMA). The recognition came in two of the competitions most coveted categories: Plastic Tubes and Laminate Tubes.

ETMA is an association for producers of flexible aluminum, plastic and laminate tubes. Representing the interests of 46 members from 19 European countries, the organization communicates the benefits of tube packaging; each year, its “Tube of the Year” competition showcases some of the tube industry’s most groundbreaking new solutions.

In the Plastic Tubes category, Neopac’s RECYCLED PLASTIC TUBE, which is utilized by Farfalla for several of its 100% natural vegan haircare products, took top honors. Part of Neopac’s EcoDesign family of sustainable solutions and suitable for use with cosmetic products, the RECYCLED PLASTIC TUBES comprise 64% PCR material from post-consumer recycled material (PCR) derived from household waste such as milk, water and juice bottles, and post-industrial recycled material (PIR) from laminate production waste. All totaled, Neopac’s RECYCLED PLASTIC TUBES provide a smaller carbon footprint and lower environmental impact over their lifespan. The tubes are certified by Ecocert, and cleared for full food contact by the US FDA.

SAMSUNG CSC

In the Laminate Tubes category, Neopac won for its Stylo™ Polyfoil® Tube with Spatula Applicator for Canesten, a cream for treating athlete’s foot from Bayer Consumer Health. Features included a special applicator comprised of soft TPE material, allowing patients to apply the cream hands-free – an important benefit as athlete’s foot is a highly contagious fungal infection.

Bayer’s requirement was to develop an applicator geometry that would allow effortless treatment of skin areas between the toes. To achieve this, the material of the applicator needed to be flexible and compatible with the filling material. Neopac incorporated a rotating ring on the applicator to prevent leakage and protect the product. On/Off marking indicates whether the applicator is open or closed and, thanks to a novel ribbing effect, operation of the rotating ring is convenient for all age groups.

The Polyfoil® laminate protects the product against light, air and water vapor diffusion and migration. Notably, the packaging solution was a hit with consumers: approximately 90% found Canesten product application convenient and simple via the enhanced applicator.

Tube Council (NA) Annual Winter Meeting and Awards Dinner February 6th in Los Angeles

January 12, 2018 by Steve Canfield

The Tube Council’s winter meeting and awards dinner was held at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel on February 6th. Attendees included twenty-two member companies with nine tube manufacturing members and thirteen associate members from the supplier and support services sectors. Over forty-five individuals participated.

In addition to a general membership meeting and Council update, the day’s highlights included an open discussion on integrating social media and a new Tube Council website design into the Council’s initiatives. This would offer members, suppliers and product marketers a vehicle to learn about squeeze tube manufacturing, product innovations and trends in the marketplace. An updated website will be introduced later this year.

Associate Members of the Council were invited to present updates on their companies activities. Aisa, Avery Dennison, Sibo Group and Silgan Dispensing Systems made enlightening presentations on their product offerings. In addition to the member presentations, members were invited to attend and enjoy a presentation by the meeting’s guest speaker, Molly Garris, Senior Manager, Digital Strategy, U.S. Beauty for Johnson & Johnson Consumer, Inc. Ms. Garris’ presentation “Show Me Your Shelfie” highlighted trends in the skin care category for the millennial versus the general market. She engaged the entire membership with her insightfulness.

The day’s activities culminated with a cocktail reception and awards dinner. Tubes were nominated in different market categories, including Personal Care, Oral Care, Pharmaceutical, Industrial and Household and Food markets. Each entry was evaluated for the use of interesting graphics, innovative components or dispensing features. Innovations in sustainability, product components and tube processes were also considered. The top award, Tube of the Year, was awarded to Albea Americas, Inc. for its Nubian Heritage African Black Soap Exfoliant Spot Treatment tube. The full list of winning entries can be found on the Tube Council website.

We encourage the participation of companies involved with the tube industry in the council’s bi-annual meetings. The next meeting is scheduled in conjunction with the Pack Expo International Trade Show in Chicago, Illinois, October 14-17, 2018.
